The carpet may be the very first thing your feet touch upon entering a room. Sure, there may be some areas where you don’t have a carpet or a rug for that matter, but there is no denying that the carpet is the best solution for all of the living room and bedroom areas.

Given that it covers so much square footage, your carpet is under constant threat of stains and spills. It can happen to anyone at any time – a careless moment leads to an accident and then a nasty stain. Here are few of the items that contribute to the worst stains on the carpet:

Coffee – your boost-me-up favourite drink in the morning also happens to be a nasty offender when it comes to carpet stains. If you are one of the many people out there who cannot start their day without a coffee drink, you need to be especially careful. Since you are not feeling yourself early in the morning, the chance of accidents with that coffee mug is great. Needless to say, you can ruin your carpet, if the drink ends up on the floor. In case the worst happens, you must blot the excess moisture quickly and use a wet wipe to remove the rest. Keep at it till most of the coffee stain is gone.
Facial makeup – most such products are designed to change the shade of your skin, and their ingredients are hazardous for the carpet. It goes without saying that makeup products produce tough carpet stains that can leave a lasting mark on the fabric. Wax-based products and lipstick are perhaps the most dangerous. There are few different solutions you can try, depending on what makeup product you want to clean. Nail polish remover works for nail polish stains, while 3% hydrogen peroxide can possibly get the foundation stain off. Mascara/eye-liner stains react well to a mix of water and dishwashing detergent. As for lipstick, you can try rubbing alcohol, but you need to act fast.
Bleach – bleach is a powerful cleaning solution, but that doesn’t mean you should ever use it on the carpet. A single drop of it can permanently damage the fabric. That is not even the worst part. Because the solution is so robust that you can, in fact, do very little to remedy the situation.
Tomato-based products – in the past tomatoes served the purpose to dye clothes. They really have a staying power with all of the products they can be incorporated into, such as ketchup, tomato soup and tomato paste. You have to scrape off any remaining product and apply water with dishwashing detergent. Sponge the stain with a clean white cloth.
Grape-based products – you probably know that red wine looks menacing on the carpet. Its sibling – the grape juice – is equally scary and detrimental. What you can try is pouring lemon juice directly on the stained area and then blotting.
